Frequently Asked Questions
How do I report a safety incident?
Tap the orange "+" button visible on any screen in the app. Fill in the incident type, location, and a brief description. Reports are reviewed by the community and our moderation team.
How do I enable or disable notifications?
Go to Settings (gear icon in your profile) and scroll to the Notifications section. You can control alert categories, proximity radius, quiet hours, and severity thresholds.
How does the safety score work?
Safety scores (0-100) are calculated from recent incident data, community reports, and verified sources. A higher score means fewer and less severe incidents in that area. Scores update daily.
Is my location data shared with other users?
No. Your precise location is never shared with other users. We use your location only to show relevant nearby alerts and calculate safety scores. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
How do I delete my account?
Open the app, go to Profile > Settings, and scroll to the "Danger Zone" section at the bottom. Tap "Delete My Account" and confirm. This permanently removes your account and all associated data.
What should I do in an emergency?
Chipon Alert is an informational tool, not an emergency service. In an emergency, contact local authorities immediately. In Nigeria, dial 112 (emergency), 199 (fire), or 767 (police).
How do I verify an incident report?
Tap any incident on the map or in the alerts feed, then use the thumbs-up or thumbs-down buttons to confirm or dispute the report. Community verification helps ensure accuracy.
Can I use Chipon Alert without creating an account?
Yes. You can browse the safety map, view incidents, and check neighborhood scores without signing in. An account is needed to report incidents, verify reports, and receive personalized alerts.
Important
Chipon Alert provides safety information only and is not a substitute for emergency services. If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services: 112 (Nigeria Emergency), 199 (Fire), 767 (Police).
